EKTA AND ME

Woah! I am back y’all. Did you miss me? So much was happening I couldn’t get a second to chat with you lovelies. Traveling to China, SA Fashion Week, launching my new collection, and just general surviving of the Joburg heat. It was all a mission. Anyway I am here to spill the tea on all things EKTA.

As soon as I saw an email from local South African designer Ekta Kalan my eyes lit up because I have been following them forevs, and love their bright and bold collections at each fashion week.  EKTA is inspired by Ekta Kalan’s childhood love of colour, mix of South African and Indian cultures, and the immaculate craftsmanship. Each item of clothing has a story that is created with love and a sense of appreciation of the past.

I received 3 EPIC pieces from them, and as soon as I fit them on it was if they were made specifically for my body. As you may have noticed I am quite petite and slender, so it can get difficult shopping for my body type. Their sizes range from XS to XL which is amazing. Yasss to diversity! Ok let’s get into the looks.

This here dress is EVERYTHING! The colour panels on the front pop amazingly on the black. The fit is impeccable especially for my small waist, giving me a curvier shape. The 3 quarter sleeve and thicker material makes it a perfect dress to transition into colder seasons.

On my first day of SA Fashion Week I pulled out this bright EKTA number because I knew it would turn heads, and that it did. Featured on Marie Claire’s 10 Most Beautiful Street Style Looks, Spree’s Street Style Inspo, Elle South Africa Best Looks of Day 1 #SAFW, and W24. I funked it up with tassle earrings from Inkaturah, borrowed/stole a bag and shoes from my mom’s closet and stepped out in my fave protective style Bantu Knots.

All smiles at the AKJP pop up. Pic by Themba Mbuyisa for W24.

I sat front row for the EKTA A/W 18 collection runway, and was proud to represent EKTA in this beautiful dress. See their latest collection below.

In the mix of my absenteeism I took a trip to China (Ya I know issa lot), and I wore my final EKTA item in the streets of Shanghai. Again this shirt fit perfectly on my small frame.

It is also giving me major 70s vibe with the floral pattern.

  1. Yes, you were missed babe. Thank you for lighting up my fashion fire. You killed it in that bright yellow EKTA number at fashion week. Your new collection looks amazing. That vintage floral dress (heart eyes). Wishing you continued success. Stay cool 🙂
